The Happiness Scale, and other tools from ACRA such as the Functional Analysis can be used at any point during an engagement with a young person in order to identify changing needs, progress, and achievements.

Introducing tools as part of a review can allow both the young person and the practitioner a new perspective because change can be measured in a tangible way. Re-focusing on goals and identifying achievements can provide further motivation for change. Even when a young person has struggled, it is possible to use the review/evaluation as a way for the young person to learn more about themselves and what is required to make changes.

Regardless of the outcome, the practitioner (as a neutral guide) positions themselves as a reliable source of ongoing support and assistance.
